Award Ceremony 2024
Björn Carlsons Östersjöpris 2024 was awarded at Hasselbacken in Stockholm September 17. The prize winner, Professor Ragnar Elmgren, received the prize from the president of Stockholm University, Astrid Söderbergh Widding.
Agnes Karlsson, one of the founders of the Björn Carlsons Baltic Fellows, moderated the award ceremony. Introducing Bo Lehander, chairman of the board at the Björn Carlsons Östersjöstiftelse, the ceremony was opened. Professor Christina Rudén at Stockholm University and chairman of the nomination committee for the Björn Carlsons Östersjöpris talked about the selection process, followed by welcoming the recipient of the 2024 prize. Professor Ragnar Elmgren presented his pioneering work over the last 50 years on marine eutrophication. His focus has been on understanding the complex interactions between human activities and marine ecosystems, particularly in the Baltic Sea. Lastly, Stefan Heinänen presented the Björn Carlsons Baltic Fellows project, funded by the foundation for a healthier sea.
